SUMIFS / Art Teacher

Sum Supply Costs by Project

I need to sum 'Cost' where Project is 'Sculpture' and Vendor is 'ArtSupplyCo'.

formula.xlsx
=SUMIFS(E2:E9, B2:B9, "Sculpture", D2:D9, "ArtSupplyCo")

How it works: The SUMIFS function allows you to sum values in a range that meet multiple criteria. In this scenario, it sums the 'Cost' (E2:E9) only for rows where the 'Project' (B2:B9) is 'Sculpture' AND the 'Vendor' (D2:D9) is 'ArtSupplyCo'. Each criterion range is followed by its respective criterion, which must be enclosed in double quotes if it's text.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Open your Excel spreadsheet containing your supply cost data.

2

Identify the column you want to sum (Cost, which is column E in this example). This will be your 'sum_range'.

3

Identify the first criterion range (Project, column B) and the specific criterion ('Sculpture').

4

Identify the second criterion range (Vendor, column D) and the specific criterion ('ArtSupplyCo').

5

In an empty cell, type the SUMIFS formula: `=SUMIFS(E2:E9, B2:B9, "Sculpture", D2:D9, "ArtSupplyCo")`

6

Press Enter to see the total cost for 'Sculpture' projects purchased from 'ArtSupplyCo'.
