CONCATENATE / Surveyor

Combine GPS Coordinates

I need to combine 'Latitude' and 'Longitude' columns with a comma to format them for Google Maps.

formula.xlsx
=CONCATENATE(A2,",",B2)

How it works: The CONCATENATE function is used to join multiple text strings or cell values into one. By specifying the Latitude cell (A2), a literal comma (enclosed in double quotes to treat it as text), and the Longitude cell (B2) as separate arguments, the function effectively merges them into a single string. This output format (e.g., '34.0522,-118.2437') is precisely what mapping services like Google Maps expect for direct input or linking.

Data Setup

Latitude Longitude
34.0522 -118.2437
40.7128 -74.0060
51.5074 0.1278

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Open your Excel sheet containing the Latitude and Longitude data.

2

Select the cell where you want the combined coordinates to appear (e.g., C2, assuming Latitude is in A and Longitude in B).

3

Enter the CONCATENATE function, referencing the Latitude cell, a comma in double quotes, and the Longitude cell: `=CONCATENATE(A2,",",B2)`.

4

Press Enter to display the combined coordinate in the selected cell.

5

Drag the fill handle (the small square at the bottom-right of the selected cell) down to apply the formula to the rest of your data, combining all Latitude and Longitude pairs.
